To boost the Cadillac SRX appeal, General Motors is setting a new trend by using hand-crafted features in the crossover’s interior.

The newest Cadillac addition utilizes Cadillac’s new “cut-and-sew” interior process on its cabin design. Said design combines advanced technology with the hand-rendered exactitude of expert craftsmen. In addition, coverings for components like the instrument panel, center console and door trim are cut, sewn and wrapped mostly by hand. Hence, the meticulous and reliable quality of the hand-crafted features and accessories of the vehicle can be had in the new SRX.

The Cadillac SRX which was launched in Europe in 2004 combines sporty performance and dynamic driving to deliver superb off-road and on-road capabilities. For the model year 2007, the vehicle is enhanced to deliver superior cream-of-the-crop elegance via hand-crafted auto features. The vehicle comes in a rear-wheel-drive V-6 model and an enhanced V-8 Northstar model with six-speed automatic gearbox, a Sport Package and the option of RHD.

“The SRX is the latest and most complete example of our new approach to interiors, blending advanced technology with the hand craftsmanship that was once – and is again becoming – a Cadillac trademark,” said Jim Taylor who is Cadillac’s general manager. “This new interior adds to SRX’s compelling package of design, performance, luxury and value, within the practicality of a crossover vehicle.”

The Cadillac SRX also gets a new sport appearance package that includes two exhaust tips, wire mesh treatment, two tire choices, and finally the striking body-color grille and rear fascia. The package with the 18-inch tires is priced at $32000 while the package with 20-inch wheels is priced at $3,945. The 20-inch wheels cost $1,700. The new vehicle from the automaker is equipped with improved Cadillac Escalade parts as well as those of the STS. The auto parts include a new $2,345 Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround digital audio system. In addition, the new SRX is also given significant tweaks.

The Cadillac SRX retains its title as the division’s first-ever luxury crossover vehicle that lives by its automaker’s bold design vocabulary with its crisp, sharp-edged look, striking vertical headlights, bold front side sections and the V-shaped front narrowing into the classic Cadillac grille.

The Cadillac SRX is now offered with broader powertrain options that include the 4.6-litre, 32-valve V-8 Northstar engine which is extensively re-engineered and mounted longitudinally in the first all wheel-drive application of the Northstar engine family. It is made more sophisticated and technically advanced. In fact, it is now capable of generating 239 kW (325 hp) at 6500 rpm and 427 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. The sophistication is now further improved by a new and more responsive efficient six-speed automatic transmission.

The 3.6L V-6 VVT power plant, on the other hand, produces 190 kW (258 hp) at 6500 rpm and 339 Nm of torque at 2700 rpm. The 60-degree dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve powerplant offers electronic throttle control, multi-port fuel injection, variable valve timing, aluminum block and cylinder heads, two-stage roller chain cam drive, and a forged steel crankshaft mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. The V-6 is now also available with a reasonably priced rear-wheel drive option.

Both 5- and 6-speed Automatic transmissions offer Driver Shift Control, downgrade detection with brake assist, electronically controlled engine braking, and Performance Algorithm Liftfoot. Aficionados in the industry are saying that the brand new elegance offered by the Cadillac SRX is worth indulging.

Cadillac, along with other auto manufacturers will be showing off their wares at the 2007 Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva, Switzerland. The star of the show for the car maker is the 2008 CTS sedan which will make its European debut at the said event. The luxury vehicle will be the centerpiece of Cadillac’s amazing display of vehicles. Production of the said model is scheduled to start this summer and the release of the CTS in the European market will follow soon after that.

Jim Taylor, the General Manager of the Cadillac brand, is all praises for the new luxury sedan. “The all-new CTS has a mission to bring the striking design of a concept car, the performance of a sports car and sophistication of an elegant sedan right into the heart of the luxury market,” Taylor stated. He also added that the “Cadillac is injecting more dramatic character into the normally reserved luxury sedan category”.

What Taylor is pointing out as a concept car design is the use of the same elements of style on the CTS found in Cadillac’s sixteen concept car. The CTS also has the same attributes performance capability of the car maker’s V-series. The performance of the CTS can be enhanced further with the use of aftermarket parts. Just like the ones used by Audi which is also a leader in the luxury car segment, Audi’s cars can be enhanced by the use of the Audi cold air intake system. The V-series of Cadillac also offers luxurious interior and the CTS has the same attribute.

The Cadillac CTS will be powered by an advanced direct-injection gasoline engine which can churn out 300 horsepower. The 3.6-liter V6 engine, thanks to its design and efficient exhaust system has exceptionally good fuel efficiency for its class and has significantly lower emission. The powerplant is not the only thing that has received much attention from the designer but also its chassis. The frame on which the Cadillac CTS is built upon was tested all over the world to gauge its performance. The designers took the chassis to German race tracks and the roads of China and the United States. The company hopes to ride on the previous successes of the CTS. According to studies, the more than 275,000 owners of CTS are the most satisfied among the customers of the automobile industry.

Aside from the new generation CTS, Cadillac will also be showcasing at the motor show their SRX luxury crossover. The SRX has received enhancements on its exterior styling. The interior meanwhile was completely redesigned. The upgrade of the SRX gives it a more spacious interior which adds to the luxury aura of the vehicle. The most notable change in the crossover vehicle is the new instrument panel designed to be easily visible and readable for drivers. What more, the cockpit of the SRX is hand-built which increases its luxury value. Another upgrade that this vehicle has is the availability of the Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed transmission. This gearbox increases the fuel efficiency of the car by facilitating smooth gear ratio changes.

Another Cadillac vehicle which will debut in Geneva is the new generation Escalade. The iconic luxury sports utility vehicle has received upgrades which makes it more powerful, more stylish and more refined. The Escalade will be powered by a massive 6.2-liter all-aluminum V8 engine which is capable of producing as much as 409 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque. The styling of the car is also made more attractive thanks to the effort to make the vehicle more aerodynamic which decreases wind resistance and therefore increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
